The mask policy was tightened due to the recent Delta-variant coronavirus surge in New York. This new policy also applies to court-affiliated facilities. Once the FDA grants full approval for the vaccine shots, New York Chief Judge Janet DiFiore said the state court system will seriously consider a COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Meanwhile, more law firms are requiring full vaccination for attorneys and staff, while other law firms are holding back. Employees who don’t submit proof of a weekly test and don’t have a valid excuse will most likely be excluded from the workplace by the NYC chief clerk, for failure to comply. Starting next week, court employees must continue weekly testing until two weeks after getting fully vaccinated, and those who have exemptions must continue to submit proof of weekly testing indefinitely. This announcement was made on the heels of the FDA’s full approval of the Pfizer vaccine, as well as the supporting science and public health guidance.
